People's Daily reported on October 20th. On the morning of the 20th, a public hearing on the price reform and adjustment of central heating in Zhengzhou was held. After nearly 5 hours of discussion, the "main risers" overwhelmed the "anti-upsists" with an absolute advantage of 16 to 8. The increase in heating prices in Zhengzhou is almost a foregone conclusion.

Zhou Cuiling, executive deputy general manager of Zhengzhou Thermal Power Corporation, said at the hearing that the company suffered a loss of 6.6179 million yuan in 2006 and 11.5954 million yuan last year. In 2008, due to factors such as rising prices, the cost of products and services of Zhengzhou Thermal Power Corporation increased a lot. Combined with the situation in previous years, the company filed this price adjustment application. Zhengzhou Heating Power Corporation has proposed three adjustment plans for high, medium and low, which are increased by 8 cents, 5.5 cents, and 3 cents per square meter per day.

Participants questioned on the spot. "I don't agree with the statement that if the thermal power company closes, the citizens will be frozen. Without Zhengzhou Thermal Power, more thermal power companies are bound to grow up."

Although most representatives said that the price increase might lead to strong opposition, they still expressed their support for the price increase in the end. Shi Maosheng, deputy dean of the Law School of Zhengzhou University, said, "If the price increases, I will choose the third option." Qin Zicheng, president of the Zhengzhou Clothing Association, agreed with the first price increase plan.

A consumer representative at the meeting revealed, “At the preparatory meeting, 11 of the 13 consumer representatives opposed the price increase, and 4 of the 8 department representatives opposed the price increase. Today, no one of the department representatives objected. Someone also wavered on the representatives of the leaders." He called this situation "unexplainable."

At around 12:50 noon, the host announced the results of the hearing. For the heating company’s price adjustment plan, 16 representatives agreed to the price adjustment. Among them, 4 agreed to the first plan, accounting for 16%; 2 agreed to the second plan, accounting for 8%; and 6 agreed to the third plan, accounting for 24%; 4 people who proposed moderate adjustments, accounting for 16%; 8 people who disagreed with price adjustments, accounting for 32%; and 1 person who suspended price adjustments, accounting for 4%.
